F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Yuri?

A: "Yuri" is the Japanese word for "lily" and is sometimes used as a euphemism for gay women. It's also the name of a genre within manga and anime where a lesbian relationship is a significant plot element. Americans often use the word to designate anime/manga with hardcore lesbian porn, and use "Shoujo-Ai," or "Girl's Love" to denote works that focus more on the relationships between gay women.

In Japan, it's the other way around. "Yuri" is an inclusive term that describes anime or manga with lesbian characters, sometimes with nudity, but mostly without. Japanese people usually use the term "Rezu" for hardcore lesbian porn.

Q: So, Akai Ito is porn?

A: Heavens, no! In some ways, Akai Ito is too tame to even be considered romance. As far as I know, there is no kissing in the entire game... at least, not on the mouth.

Q: Wait, no kissing!? Why do you call it yuri, then!?

A: Because Kei is a yuri. No doubt about it. There are times in the game where she declares her love for a character in a very poetic fashion that is so undeniably romantic, it makes your heart pound. However, this is in her mind. Whether or not she enters into a reciprocal, romantic relationship with any given character is left for the player to imagine after the end. (There are also doujinshi...)

In some cases, this is likely for the best.

And you have to ask yourself, would a traditionally-minded Japanese person like Kei wind up in an intimate relationship with someone she just met after no longer than four days?

Also, if you would count biting as kissing then, well... there's lots of kissing. On the neck.

Q: ......

A: Yes, I know. But it's good. Trust me.

Q: Wait a minute. How old is Sakuya!?

A: Sakuya never seemed inclined to answer that one.

Q: But, if Sakuya and Kei...

A: That's what I meant by "likely for the best." Since there's a lack of physical interaction, you're free to assume that Sakuya waits for Kei to turn eighteen, or twenty, or whatever number would give you some peace of mind. Personally, in Sakuya's case, I don't care. She's one of my favorite characters, and my #1 favorite ending is in her route.
